Mariawohl School Building - 2007/2006

When we arrived in Mariawohl in July 2007 we found the school building had been torn down. The man responsible for tearing it down told us that he was given the school building by the Collective as his share of the Collective assets. He was not pleased with his share, but he was told by the Collective management that the school building was worth a "small fortune" - US$1/brick. So, he tore it down and started selling the bricks. He offered us one, but with the new airline luggage weight restrictions.....

The man not wearing a shirt (in the photo) was the new owner of the school building and was proud to tell us that he had just torn it down. Standing on the rubble of the school were the members of the group who are direct descendents of Nicholas Fransen (Great-Grandchildren: Diana Epp-Fransen, Jesse Epp-Fransen, Rob Fransen, Sonja Fransen, Grandchildren: Gordon Epp-Fransen, Christine Fransen, and Ted Fransen.) The photos were taken by Esther Fransen.

The top picture was provided by Edgar Rogalski who was on hand in 2006 to take a snapshot of the school in its demolition phase.
