Mariawohl, Molotschna - could this be the remains of our ancestral home?

David Fransen takes another look from a different angle at the basement that might have been the house of Nicholas & Maria (Wichert) Fransen. After GF Fransen died (1922) and GM Fransen and the children emigrated to Vineland, Ontario, Canada (1926), our GF's brother Jakob Fransen and his family lived here. We know that a Chapel was built here, and didn't Anatoliy tell us, there was a Chapel at this spot?

  1. This sounds similar to what we learned in 2007. At that time we showed the local people the Mariawohl plan from the 1920s and asked if they could confirm that the lot marked Jacob Fransen was in fact the one we were standing in front of. They told us that it was and that a chapel had been built there.

Another memory from the 2007 visit to Mariawohl is standing on the rubble of the school where Opa had attended as a boy. I can still remember Gord (Epp-Fransen) stating, "This is where our education journey began." - or something to that effect.
