Checking out Fuerstenau

Upon arriving in Fuerstenau, we checked our map of the village created by Uncle Frank Klassen (1909 - 1993) to determine an action plan. It worked really well, to ask someone through our guide Olga, to take us to the oldest person in the village. We were led to the home of Mr Peter Wollmann (see Herb, our Intourist guide Olga and the local person who showed us to the Wollmann house on the second picture). Sure enough he was home, welcomed us inside most graciously, and talked and talked in German about his life in Fuerstenau during the last 80 years. He mentioned that he remembered there were Dicks living in their village at one time. In the picture with Mr Wollmann are Sharon Fransen, Angelika Fransen, and Olga Shmakin. Kate & Hannah Landis were also most attentive. When we tried to leave, Mr Wollmann repeatedly asked us to stay longer. We needed to be off to check out the school, and look for the cemetery and the yard where my mother and her family had lived.
